Thanks to the generosity of Mojo listeners, The St. Jude Radiothon was a success…with over $23,000 raised!  Keep in mind, patients at St. Jude are not billed for treatment.  It was the vision of founder Danny Thomas that “no child should die in the dawn of life”.  Your giving keeps his dream alive.   (Missed the radiothon?  Donate here!)

My niece Lisa was only 7 years old when her parents learned that she had Leukemia.  It was a paralyzing moment for the family.  I can still feel the anguish of her parents as they dealt with the reality that they may lose their first child.  The initial prognosis was not good and despite having an excellent health insurance plan, they knew that a conventional medical process would not work.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital welcomed Lisa and her parents with open arms.  The family would make the drive to Memphis, spending weeks at a time as Lisa went through the rigors of Leukemia treatment.  There were no guarantees, especially in those initial months.  But there was never a lack of hope.  It was the hope that sustained Lisa and her parents and St. Jude worked its miracles.

Lisa is nearly 30 today.  She is a bright, charming, engaging young woman with a lifetime of opportunity ahead of her.  None of this would be possible without the committment and passion of everyone in the St. Jude organization.

On Wednesday, Radio One Cincinnati is holding a day-long “radiothon” to raise money for St. Jude.   I urge you to make a donation so that St. Jude can continue doing what they do best:  give families like Lisa’s hope.
