* Soba Noodles- in many Asian countries, long noodles are referenced to as that which enables a long life. The catch: you cannot break he noodle before it is all in your mouth.

* Pork-in Austria, Cuba, and Spain the pig and its eating habits represent good luck. As pigs root for food they keep their feet planted and push their snouts forward. This means to the former countries progress and future prosperity.

* Lentils-in Italy they are a symbol of good fortune, as many believe they resemble coins. As the legume plumps in the water when it cooks, this further symbolizes growing wealth.

* Fish-in North America, Asia, and Europe people traditionally eat fish to celebrate the New Year. It is associated with moving forward, as in the way fish swim. Additionally, because fish travel in schools they signify abundance.

* Greens-it’s the color of money so there’s no coincidence that this food made the list! Greens such as kale, collard, and cabbage are traditionally eaten New Years Day to bring in wealth and economic prosperity.
