If you’re considering buying a new car, you may want to consider buying it this weekend.

According to Juan Flores, director of vehicle valuation for Kelley Blue Book, Labor Day is traditionally the best time to buy a car. That is because manufacturers offer generous incentives on current-year models to clear them out and make room on dealer lots for vehicles from the next model year, which traditionally start arriving this month.

“If you just isolated this calendar year, Labor Day is the best time to buy,” he said.

So how do this year’s Labor Day deals compare with past ones?

While some auto industry experts have said that consumers will find some of the best Labor Day deals ever this holiday weekend thanks to a recovering auto industry, Mr. Flores said he didn’t believe deals would be any better over all than last year. The reason, he said, is that manufacturers have worked in recent years to cut back their inventories so there isn’t as much excess of 2010 vehicles. Still, this doesn’t mean the deals this year won’t be generous.

“The assumption is that this year is somehow a special year,” Mr. Flores said. “While that’s not the case, it’s still a great time to purchase a vehicle.”

He pointed to “some very competitive programs” this holiday, including nearly 0 percent interest rates with 48- to 60-month financing terms, and $3,000 to $5,000 cash rebates on some vehicles. This compares with typical offers earlier this year of 24- to 36-month financing terms and $500 cash back, he said.

The financing deals are more generous this Labor Day weekend, he said, thanks to today’s low interest rate environment, but you could have received more cash back last year. He estimated that the average cash rebate this weekend would be $1,500, down from $2,500 on average last year at the same time. (The exact rebates vary, depending on the type of vehicle.) But according to Kelley Blue Book, cash incentives this Labor Day have increased on a year-over-year basis for some vehicles: midsize cars, full-size cars, full-size crossover utility vehicles, sports cars and vans.

If you choose one of this year’s Labor Day deals and buy a 2010 model, you should keep in mind that you are buying a year-old vehicle and are thus taking on that additional depreciation. For that reason, Mr. Flores said, you may only want to buy a 2010 model now if you are planning to keep the vehicle for a long time.

And if you can’t make it to the dealership this weekend, Mr. Flores recommended trying to buy a car at the end of a month, in general. That’s traditionally when dealers are trying to hit certain volume targets to receive manufacturer incentives, he said. Weekends, he said, are also typically better times to buy than weekdays since dealers have certain sales targets they want to hit on traditionally busy weekends, so they may be more willing to offer deals.

Everyone wants to be a winner at something. It’s just human nature to want to be considered a success at something, anything. Society has placed so much pressure on our children to be the best. The standards of everyday success are set so high it’s difficult to understand who sets them!

I have struggled with self-esteem issues for a number of years dealing with my weight. Issues about being “different.” Just plain issues, like most people. However, I found a way to win EVERY DAY at something. Slowly reframing my vision of myself and how I viewed success and measured achievments.
Here a just a few of my winning made easy tips:

1. When you get up each day, CONGRATULATE YOURSELF!!! Why? Because you could have chosen to check out and simply quit on your life and you didn’t. Thank God for one more day and because you choose to use it and not loose it, You’re a winner!!

2. Every time you say “Hello” and smile at someone and they simply smile backand/or speak back. CONGRATULATE YOURSELF!!! Why? Because you have single handedly changed the energy exchanged between to humans! Some people may go all day never having had ANY ONE smile at them or greet them. You chose to be a life changer for someone…That makes you a winner for giving positive energy!

3. When physically you don’t look or feel “beautiful” in your own eyes. Or you feel you are just not good enough at anything…CONGRATULATE YOURSELF!! Why? Because you have the ability to process thought! Now process this! You have eyes with vision now use your INNER VISION  to see your TRUE YOU. Who is fearfully and wonderfully made. The True you that can live, breathe, think and move just because GOD said SO and because HE LOVES YOU BETTER THAN YOU LOVE YOURSELF! On  some days simply realizing that makes you a winner. You are a winner because you chose to embrace love and share it with others!

4. Finally, we often need to find success in simple things. For example, you cleaned the bathroom and but not the whole house. You are a winner!
a. You got the kids to school on time! Considering what you went through his morning, YOU’RE A WINNER!

b. You made it through another day without GOING ALL THE WAY OFF AND LOOSING CONTROL….You my friend are a winner, because your day could have ended differently.(at the Justice Center) 

c. You cooked a decent meal for your family or yourself 2 times this week. YOU are winner!

The key to winning is finding victory in small things and reframing your negative thoughts to make a positive thought the result!

Mr. Hill has been the inspirational leader and mentor for almost 20 years of a special program called Black Data Processing Associates High School Computer Competition. This program teaches computer skills, presentation approaches, and more to 7th through 12th graders. He volunteers his time to organize and teach and many times gives his money and his transportation to make sure that the students in the program have the ability and opportunity to compete. He is retired from his job at Bell Laboratories so he is limited in his financial resources but certainly not his intellectual assets! He is helping young African Americans bridge the digital and economic divide and paving the way to careers in the field of computers. His commitment to his passion has been reflected with integrity, honesty, and leadership.
